Head of Customer Support, but a Cycler at Heart: Meet Desirée
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Gothenburg, with a German mother and Swedish father.
What did you do before joining Natural Cycles?
Technically I have worked here since January last year, but I have only been working for a few months, since I was on maternity leave for eight months and came back at the beginning of January this year. I started my career in Switzerland at a Swedish company called EF Education First, then moved to Berlin and worked at Zalando, being part of the Swedish team when it was launched in Sweden 2012, a role that taught me so much about e-commerce.
After working abroad, I moved to Sweden and worked for Tele2 for almost five years, both as a Product Owner for Tele2's self-service portal and then as the Service Manager for Comviq's Customer Service. Throughout my career, service has been the leading star in a combination of working with loyalty programs, online self-service, and a large customer service organization at Comviq.
Tell us about your work at Natural Cycles.
I work as the Head of Customer Support. It includes planning our operations and service and leading a great team of persons who are answering our Cyclers’ questions to empower women from all over the world to learn even more about their body and using Natural Cycles. The Customer Service Team is the key to creating a loyal and long-term relationship with our Cyclers since they add value to both our Cyclers, but also to the company knowing what our Cyclers want, need and ask us.
Why Natural Cycles?
A strong motivator was to work in women's health since it ticks the boxes on my values and my ambitions on what I want to have achieved throughout my career. A year before I saw the open position, I told my husband that I would love to work for Natural Cycles if something within my field would turn up, the reason being I satisfyingly used the app myself for more than two years. Even so, it happened that I was six months pregnant, with a planned Natural Cycles baby, when I started the job.
What has been your favorite project so far at Natural Cycles?
I have two favored projects, one related to the team and the other to the actual service. Setting up a strong and independent organization, including the recruitment of new employees, has been great. To find the right combination of skills and personalities is the foundation of creating something even more meaningful. With Natural Cycles growing, we need to expand and match our service to be as innovative and smart as our product, so the other favorite is reviewing our service strategy.
What's the one thing you've learned during your time at Natural Cycles?
The most outstanding thing is all the knowledge about the female body. I am so impressed with all the research and science that is shared by my colleagues, and there is still so much I need to learn!
Favorite lunch discussion?
I love how very normal it is to talk about everything from PMS, to cervical mucus, to sex drive within the company. Topics that easily would make other people blush is our daily business are discussed during lunch and company meetings.
What's your go-to-place to eat in Stockholm?
Since both my husband and I have a sweet tooth, I would say Lillebrors bageri. On the more foodie side, Asian Post Office is a favorite of mine.
What do you do outside of work?
Right now, I would say that my hobby is 100% my son - he keeps us alert day and night. Besides that, I love to dance and get my heartbeat pumping, as well as doing some DIY - interior projects with things that I find at flea markets. And since storage space in Stockholm isn't the easiest, my parents and parents-in-law politely act as my storage location providers.
